With substantial lobbying from the Vitari representatives and despite the clear time gap, the decision is made to intervene in a manner which cannot be easily seen nor traced. Utilizing a super carrier and standoff missile carrying heavy strikecraft. 

The Imperial fleet is attacked at standoff range, the munitions employed are of the 'brilliant' class with active adaption and cooperative tactics capability. They are launched by heavy strike craft who are carrying out rapid jump in, launch and jump out attack profiles. Targeting is provided by stealth craft which had slipped into the system soon after the discovery of the invasion operation. The large scale of this attack profoundly interrupts the operation, the admiral in charge fearing an Alliance intervention of a large scale withdraws her fleet and abandons nearly a million Marines on the surface of the Vitari colony. With the fleet out of the way the Vitari defense forces on the ground and in space surge back, reaching the same conclusion as the Imperial Admiral, that this is a late game intervention from the Alliance.

First contact via the 'uptime' Vitari is soon carried out with the intelligence apparatus of the Vitari Commerce Federation, its a simple offer to become the quiet partners in something that may expand well beyond the local situation and is readily accepted by the more shadowy council that lurks behind the main figures of the Commerce Federation.
